"Lomando.com", known in Japan as "Fancy Island" (Japanese: ふぁんしーあいらんど) is an online horror-puzzle video game developed by Nohito and published on a Geocities URL by the name of lomando.com. The game is set in a haunted amusement park called Fancy Island, a once successful park that ghosts claimed after an unexplained disease outbreak and the death of the former park manager Yukihito. The player plays as the unnamed protagonist, the Visitor, and their journey to eliminate the ghosts from the establishment.

Show

The entire game was developed by an anonymous individual known as Nohito, Fancy Island Manager, or mosoumanager using the Flash plugin, with sound effects and music borrowed from Onjin and HMIX. The creator credits their inspiration for Flash development to a now-defunct Flash animation website called Jigokuhen (地獄変).[3] While released on a public-access website for all regions, the game was intended solely for Japanese speakers. However, the game received minor localization for English speakers in 2016 in the form of translations for the Yukan no Shonen videos. In 2019, the developer began rewriting the game's code in HTML5 due to the Flash plugin's scheduled removal the following year, including more localization for English players, most notably a full translation of the top page. They completed the HTML5 version of the game in February 2020, removing all remnants of the Flash version in December 2020.

Before the in-game events, Yukihito, the former manager and founder of the Fancy Island Amusement Park, began construction on the amusement park of his dreams in August 2009, an indoor theme park named Fancy Island. He finished it the same month, posting park advertisements and hiring a mascot named Mimi. However, after hiring Pieyama Pie-Man and Pieyama Pie-Man Mk-2 as performers, an unexplained outbreak occurred; 17 individuals were rushed to the hospital with unexplainable symptoms. Park employees apologized to visitors soon after, and the manager stated that although their agencies never determined the cause, the park should still be able to reopen on September 14th. However, this reopening never came to fruition, with news headlines stating that ghosts had taken over the establishment. Former park workers who could not escape were possessed or turned evil, and the Pieyama God took control of the park. Due to this, the creator's depression became increasingly worse. He would express his desire for death in his diaries, attributing his thoughts to today's society and work ethic. As the year went on, Yukihito went crazy, writing notes in his journal that were completely nonsensical. Yukihito would pass away on April 4th, 2010, with notes added after his death suggesting that the cause was suicide by rope. After his death, Yukihito would possess a spirit, Kanrinin no Yorishiro, in the now haunted amusement park, presumably to watch over it. A researcher went into the establishment sometime afterward to investigate the paranormal happenings. He would discover a password on a door, which is later revealed to lead to the heart of the attraction during the in-game events. However, the researcher could not escape from the amusement park after finding the code. He was reported missing and declared dead soon after visiting the haunted park, only leaving a tape recording behind.

The ghosts in the park would continue to kill any unwanted visitors. However, the protagonist (known as "You" throughout the game) enters the amusement park soon after to defeat the ghosts and seize the establishment. The park stayed cute and innocent on the outside, likely to trick any visitors into visiting. However, once the protagonist enters, it is revealed that the park had been completely refurbished, littered with cryptic codes and ghosts, with only very few remnants of the amusement park remaining, such as a bathroom and the manager's old diaries. To save the amusement park, the Visitor must solve the puzzles in a now maze-like establishment, with many paths leading to screamers. Along the way, the Visitor must fight in RPG-like battles with certain enemies to obtain extremely crucial codes.

After unlocking the door to Ujinoma.html, the Visitor enters the final area of the amusement park, containing three individual battles with the main antagonists. After defeating Eyedaddy and Ichimatsuko, the Visitor enters the final boss arena with the Pieyama God. With the help of the Magic Sword they obtained after defeating Eyedaddy, the Visitor eliminates the Pieyama God, freeing the amusement park of the ghosts and returning Fancy Island to an abandoned attraction. After defeating him, the Visitor can enter a final code to unlock an image gallery of characters they encountered throughout the game.

Development

According to the website's copyright date and the metadata for in-game images, the first prototype for the game was developed in late 2010 and likely completed that same year. However, the creator later clarified that the prototype was not released until early 2011.[1] This first version of the game was drastically different than all other versions, containing only 9 short pages with much different characters. The creator made a recreation of this version on November 27th, 2014.

By 2012, the game was revamped. This new version of the game contained more of the characters that are still currently used, many more pages, a new ending, and a new image for Mimi. Players also began discovering the website during this time. The route to the final page, along with a final boss battle against Ichimatsuko, was added in 2013. The creator also made a walkthrough video for the game at the end of the year. Sometime in December 2013, the creator began a blog called Fanlab, which was mainly used for extra content for Fancy Island, but would also house personal blogs from the manager. The blogs, as well as many more things on the website, were deleted sometime in 2015-2017, and only a few things are still on the site. In 2014, some notable changes were made to the game, including new pages and a new diary. The creator also made another walkthrough this year, deleting the old one. The new diary was deleted at the end of the year, however, being replaced by an extra page with rejected and unused content.

In 2015, the real and fake top pages received major updates, and many more pages were added. The creator also made the LINE sticker sets for the game in this year. Another walkthrough of the game was made during this time. The creator also began work on the smartphone version of the game, since Flash cannot be run on mobile devices. It was completed the same year, though it didn't have any sound effects and relied on buttons.

The game received very minimal updates throughout 2016 and 2017, with the most notable update being English translations for the Yukan no Shonen videos. No updates were done during 2018, since the creator was taking a break from social media. However, this all changed in 2019, when the mobile version was remade to include sounds and be generally improved. After this, the creator made English translations for the top page, remaking some aspects of it in the process. The game was also being rewritten during this due to Adobe Flash being scheduled for removal. The creator began importing the game to HTML5 in 2019, completing it in February 2020. The creator also stated that the game will not be receiving anymore expansion after 2020.[4] After this, the creator continued to be active on social media, releasing merch on ClubT in June 2020. However, after this, the creator stopped updating the game and went inactive on all social media platforms. Only two major updates have been added since; the removal of the remaining Flash content in December 2020 and new links for the unlisted YouTube videos on August 6th, 2022. The creator returned to Twitter on October 11th, 2022 on the release notes account, announcing that the site was temporarily under maintenance.[5] The site went back up a day later, which was also announced via Twitter.[6] A favicon for the site was also added.
